Start your prep by getting the essentials. An OS map of the location you want to visit, a compass to read the map and help you plot your direction and a pencil to mark favourite spots. Real, tangible, paper maps should be your first port of call. They don’t require a battery and they never glitch. What’s printed is there forever, and certainly something you can rely on in the middle of the wilderness.
