Polarising the light
It’s arguably the most important filter for landscape photography. Make your scene jump out at you and remove haze with a polariser.
In my case, sunrise was a little underwhelming, so I decided to throw on my polarising filter. By doing so I was able to darken the blue sky and increase colour contrast. Suddenly the scene came alive. A thin haze I hadn’t seen before was erased and a thick, luscious golden green shone up from below. Everything fell in an exposure range of one to two stops, meaning no bright highlights and minimal dark shadows, which made it a very photogenic time of day.
