VERDICT

For sheer stopping power, the Lee Big Stopper wins out against the Tiffen Variable ND. Image quality is also better, with improved contrast and colour accuracy. However, the construction and image quality of the Tiffen is much better than with relatively cheap variable or fader filters on the market. On balance, we prefer the Lee Big Stopper for stills, but the Tiffen is more versatile for shooting movies.
