Our Apprentice says…

-

After walking down the beach some way, I happened upon an interesting structure, which led out into the sea. The tide had been going out for a few hours, so the lapping wave shot I made in the first photo was no longer possible. Michael suggested I square my framing up towards the waterline and go for a more symmetrical image. Shooting at the 16mm end of my Nikon 16-35mm f/4, I positioned the structure to the left of the frame. I used the wooden cross beams on the ground to lead the eye towards the horizon line, out to sea. This helped to reinforce the feeling of the vanishing point, where all the lines in the photograph suggest a three-dimensional perspective, even though it’s a two-dimensional image.
