Our pro’s verdict…

There are three key elements in successful landscape photography: exposure, depth of field and composition. Alan worked hard to ensure the exposure was correct – shooting for shadows but managing to rein in highlights. Continual reference to the histogram and tuning the exposure was key. Alan set up a great composition, using the dark sand ripples in the foreground to lead the eye up to the groynes. Front-to-back sharpness is critical, and Alan checked the back of the camera to make sure it was spot on. All the lessons learnt on the day are perfectly reflected in this single image.
