THE SECRET OF MY SUCCESS
Earlier this year, Holly gave a presentation at The Photography Show (TPS) about her transformation from hobbyist to professional photographer. Unsurprisingly perhaps, some in the audience thought there might be a short cut to turning pro… A guy came up to me at TPS and said, “Can you tell me how can I be successful quicker?’ He was asking if there was a shortcut to being a great photographer. I said, “I hate to disappoint you but there’s no other way. You’ve got to go out there and do it.” If you assume you need 10,000 hours to be an expert, which is the adage some people go by, then it’s your choice whether you put 10,000 hours in over eight years or put 10,000 hours over three years. That’s your control, you can work harder and speed up the process, but you’re not cheating the process because you’ve still got to go out and it.
