MONO or colour? Why you should sometimes shoot in black and white
Set Picture Control to Monochrome to see how the light falls – without being distracted by colour
The Monochrome Picture Control works well when shooting in Live View as you can precisely see what your black-and-white photo will look like in real time. Colour can sometimes be distracting, especially when it’s vivid like the paintwork of a car. So shooting in mono helps you see only the light and dark. This makes it easier to focus on textures and shapes. Just make sure you shoot in Raw (or Raw+JPEG) if you want to have the option to process your shots in colour. JPEG will flatten the image using the Monochrome option, meaning you cannot undo it later.
