Western Digital has just released four of its portable SSD range in 4TB options. The Sandisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 4TB (£858/$750) uses the latest NVME technology to enable up to 2000MB/S transfer speeds – if you have a computer with a fast enough Usb/thunderbolt connection!
The Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD 4TB (£746/$700) can ‘only’ manage up to 1050MB/S read and up to 1000MB/S write speeds, but that’s plenty fast enough for most computers to handle. Factor in its two-metre drop protection and IP55 water/dust resistance, and it’s a great option for active users.
The WD My Passport SSD 4TB (£746/$680) has sleek metal casing that can withstand a drop from up to 6.5 feet, and, like the Sandisk Extreme Portable SSD, can read files at up to 1050MB/S and write at up to 1000MB/S.
Finally, the WD_BLACK P50 Game Drive SSD 4TB (£751/$750) is compatible with PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One, and is designed to extend a console’s storage without compromising game loading times.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS Portable SSDS are great for adding extra storage to a laptop for editing, as well as keeping photos and videos accessible on the go. Trouble is, capacities can often be restrictive compared to mechanical hard drives, with 2TB being the upper limit, until now!
