Letters COLOUR CONVERTS

Our colour issue got everyone thinking...

-

Jessica Close’s advice on “taking your lead from nature’s palette” really resonated with me (“In clover”, May 2018). So much so, I was prompted to go straight out and buy green paint (Resene ‘Cabbage Pont’ to be precise) and proceeded to paint my living room walls. I couldn’t be more thrilled with the result. My husband and I decided to start painting the interior of our home. Who knew there were so many shades of white? Thanks to Bridget Foley (April 2018) it got a little easier to choose. Resene ‘Sea Fog’ it is; goes really well with Resene ‘Quarter Duck Egg Blue’. Jackie Sutton, Leeston

OVER THE RAINBOW

You would have been delighted by my reaction as I passed the magazine aisle in the supermarket today. My monthly ritual of treating myself for battling my way through the food shop each week was rewarded when I discovered your “colour issue”. My husband and son laughed as I did a wee jig and celebrated what has to be my favourite NZ House & Garden cover in a long time (Jacquie Hudson’s Auckland home). I raced home on a wet Christchurch weekend afternoon, lit the fire, made a coffee and carefully leafed my way through the glorious pages. They sang to me as I too am a proponent of surrounding oneself with a myriad of colours (see above) that bring you joy, make you smile and add a touch of fun to each day. Jacquie Hudson... we are on the same page! Schira Withers, Christchurch

A MATTER OF SIZE

I was rather vexed by the description of Jessica Close’s lovely three bedroom Christchurch cottage as small, at “just 160sqm”. I’ve noticed this before in your magazine. Small is defined as “a size that is less than normal or usual”. Apparently you are accurate in the case of the average Kiwi home these days but perhaps we need to challenge some perceptions of what “small” really means. Yours gratefully (in a spacious 120sqm home).
