Colour curious
Don’t be frightened of using colour in a bathroom — that’s the advice of designer Liz Kerby of Lizzie K & Co who’s responsible for the bathroom at left. She says cool whites and greys are out and is happy at the increasing variety of coloured bathroom fittings on the market, from taps in colours and a variety of metals, to basins, tiles and wall coverings. “While people have always been quite comfortable using blues and greens in a bathroom, I love the rise in lovely earthy colours like clay pinks, sandstone and terracotta,” she says. Texture is important: “A pink tile that’s glossy has quite a different feel to one that’s matte or has a stone-like finish.” If you don’t feel daring enough to use a coloured tile, Liz suggests opting for a bold paint colour which is more easily changed. With tapware, “nobody wants chrome any more”. Liz particularly likes brushed nickel for its elegance, and is excited about unsealed brass and copper taps that patinas with age.
