Tile trends
Tiles have always been the hero of bathrooms for their practicality and variety of looks. Choices today are wider than ever thanks to manufacturing techniques. Miranda Powrie of Tile Space says homeowners are using a mix of tile types rather than just one, for example subway tiles or mosaics to create interest. Current trends she has noticed are for terrazzo styles, travertine-look tiles, subway tiles with an organic handmade look and finger tiles. She says that blues and greens are popular and that the colour of tiles is getting warmer, citing travertine and limestone looks as examples. Another trend is for large-format tiles: “You can now get porcelain tiles that come in huge 1200 x 2700mm sheets, which make for amazing feature walls or shower walls – almost no grout lines in the shower wouldn’t be too bad! Sizes that were previously considered large, like 600 x 1200mm, are becoming commonplace.”
