Describe the space: Being my home work space, the room has a mixture of creativity and functionality. On either side the walls are lined with shelving. Ones side has my library and sewing machines, while the opposite side has Videris stock. In between is my desk, which sits in front of the window and is nice and long so I can easily switch from being at my laptop to sketching, looking at approvals, or checking and measuring samples. It has lots of natural light and dark wooden floors. I have a Zanzibar Gem plant as it’s air purifying, and a few crystals to create a calming atmosphere. It’s at the opposite end of the house to the living areas so I feel able to separate myself from the normality of home life. What inspires you about this space? I really hate being in dark rooms so I love that one side of the room has large windows that let in lots of natural light. That light is also important when I am approving componentry for colour matching. I like being able to access my books if I need inspiration or if I am researching an idea. Having ready access to my sewing machine is great when I am designing new styles. For so many years it never had its own space and had to be packed away until needed, which is frustrating when you want to test something quickly. I like to have things I am working on around me so it’s not a particularly tidy space, but I wouldn’t be able to work if everything was always put away. What feelings does the space evoke? It’s relaxing. I feel focused and able to concentrate. I always have music playing while I work. Because this space is within my home it is important that I feel like it is a work space and not just another room. What is your role? I am the co-founder and creative director of New Zealand-based lingerie and sleepwear company Videris Lingerie, launched in 2020.
