MATAMATA MONSTER

-

Matamata’s Rob Macaree has a Holden HZ ute in the build that could well become a burnout vehicle even wilder than last issue’s cover car. When Rob acquired the ute, it was the rolling body of an old drag car with no tubs, though that’s about to change. With a tube front end and backhalved chassis, it’s being done correctly, and Rob has managed to nail it as far as low is concerned! Getting the wheels spinning is a blown 383ci small block Chev running on methanol, which will be backed by a Powerglide transmission and trusty nine-inch diff, with a 2.75:1 final-drive ratio to ensure the fastest rear-wheel speeds achievable on the skid pad. It’s taken Rob two years of hard work and saving to get to this point, and it sounds as though it’s going to be all go once he gets his motor back. We’re keeping an eye out for this one.
