GROUP A HERITAGE
The guys at Heads Racing Supplies have earned a name as the place to go for show-quality Toranas, but they’re currently working on something arguably a whole lot more special — the Lansvale Smash Repairs Group A VL Walkinshaw. Originally a Holden-built VL Motorsports shell, it was purchased by the Lansvale team and built to Group A specification for competition. Now owned by Heads Racing Supplies proprietor, Rodney Heads, the VL is currently undergoing a complete period-correct restoration to its Bathurst days. This includes the full Lansvale Smash Repairs livery as it appeared at the time, as well as a complete mechanical restoration, centred around an injected Holden 304 V8 with authentic Group A twin-throttle manifold and Getrag five-speed manual gearbox. Rodney hopes to have the Walkinshaw ready in time for the New Zealand Festival of Motor Racing — which will be celebrating the legends of Bathurst — over the weekend of January 13–14, 2018. We look forward to seeing this iconic piece of motorsport history come back to life!
