2011 FORD FG FALCON G6E TURBO

-

The Ford Falcon G6E Turbo was a silent success when Ford launched the FG platform in 2008. The cars combined a huge amount of luxury and technology with the already successful four-litre Barra straightsix engine from the XR6 Turbo. With 485hp on tap, and an electronically limited 368lb·ft from 2000rpm through to redline, the cars had all the right ingredients to embarrass their V8-powered siblings. Zak Hoskin from Hoskin Racing Developments (HRD) saw that potential, purchasing his 2011 version in 2015, and has continued to develop it ever since, using it as a showcase of what he’s capable of building for customers. While it still runs a stock bottom end, the head has been fitted with Crow Cams valve springs to control the stock valves. Bosch 1100cc fuel injectors have been fitted, along with a Bosch intake fuel pump and Plazmaman surge tank. The reason for these fuelsystem upgrades is due to the huge amount of air now being forced into the combo thanks to a Garrett GTX3582R Gen II turbo. A Herrod cold-air intake and Plazmaman Stage 2 intercooler kit complete the intake side of the combo. One advantage that the cars have over those of old is the tunability of the factory engine-control unit (ECU) — not just to control the engine but the ZF automatic transmission as well. While those transmissions are tough in standard form, Zak’s has been upgraded to what’s known as a ‘Stage 3’ and has been fitted with a 2800rpm stall converter. From here, power feeds through a custom driveshaft to an Eaton Truetrac diff and custom rear axles. As expected, the performance has been greatly improved over standard, having been dynoed at 810hp at the flywheel on E85, which is enough to provide it with a quarter-mile PB of 10.66s at 134mph. Zak’s not afraid to drive it either, having been the 2016/’17 C2 class champion at the Night Speed Drag Wars series and repeating that again for the 2017/’18 season, all while retaining the creature comforts that Ford has provided. He’s not done yet, though, having just completed a forged engine for the car, from which he’s expecting to create in excess of 1300hp. This should, in theory, see him achieve the next goal of getting the car into the nine-second zone.
