1929 DESOTO

-

“When we were kids, we had one of these. It was a Whippet Six. We used to feel embarrassed riding in the thing! Dad used to take us to school — look at the Maoris in their old square car! He did it on purpose, ’cause most kids got dropped off in Mk3 Zephyrs, and our car [had] wooden wheels!” Jim laughs. “I’ve had ’32 Fords and that, but I’ve always liked this look.” Jim got this one from two brothers who used to live down the road — a trade for fitting a V8 in their Fordson tractor. The biggest change that he’s made to the DeSoto has been to pull the flathead six for a Ford flathead V8, which has made it a lot more user-friendly. “It cruises along the road, no trouble, but I just do skids around the paddock in it!”
