ROUND 3 OF THE 2018–2019 ENZED CENTRAL MUSCLE CARS CHAMPIONSHIP FROM PUKEKOHE PARK RACEWAY
It may come as a surprise to learn that, when Enzed Central Muscle Cars (CMC) group turned up to race at Pukekohe for the third round of the season, they were heading into the relatively unknown. We say this because, for the first time for the majority of the competitors, they would be embarking on a journey of immense speed and have no idea how to prepare themselves for it. The cars had been at Pukekohe just a few weeks before, but, this time, turns five, six, and seven — which are the turns that were created on the back straight when the Virgin Australia Supercars group returned from their Hamilton street race sojourn — would be removed and the competitors would have the thrill of racing at Pukekohe’s full pace. For many drivers, this produced multiple questions: What speed will I be doing when I get to the end? When should I brake? What diff ratio should I run? Then, to cap it all off, the temperatures had risen to heights long forgotten, so they had to add another conundrum to the list: What tyre pressures should I start with? It was a fantastic scenario. Having teams and drivers with more questions than answers was a welcome factor for observers, as it added to the challenge of the weekend. To have had the teams rock up with all the answers, round after round, would eventually make for a boring experience, and this third round was certainly the opposite of that.
