HEADS’ GUEST APPEARANCE

-

It’s not often that a car builder gets to really experience the fruits of their hard labour; however, Rodney Heads of Heads Racing Supplies got exactly that when he was handed the drive of Sean Fowler’s Torana. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Sean was unable to race at round five of the Enzed Central Muscle Cars series, so, rather than waste the entry fee, he let Rodney take the wheel. With the car having completed only one event prior to round five, it worked out well for all parties. Rodney could truly experience how the car drove, and that enabled him to make any necessary adjustments. With Rodney having kept the car out of trouble, Sean gave him the goahead to compete in two rounds of the Mainland Muscle Cars series, both of which were scheduled to take place around the time this magazine goes to print but were cancelled. Regardless, Rodney is hugely thankful to Sean for allowing him the opportunity.

With the two South Island rounds of the series taking place in quick succession, then a quick break before round six, racers should have been deep in preparation for the final round of the series by now. However, with COVID-19 forcing the cancellation of the Supercars Auckland event, at which the final round of CMC was to be held, that’s all changed. Instead, the season has been cut short, with the current points standings being ruled final for the season. That means that Dean Hansen, who was leading the chase due to some great driving and consistency, has been crowned the winner of Group1A. Angus Fogg and Dean Perkins, who even by Hansen’s own admission are quicker drivers, haven’t been quite as consistent, and have finished up neck and neck, Perkins just pipping Fogg. In Group1B, Tony Boyden has taken the title over Andrew Turner, who missed the first two rounds of the season.

In Group 2, Shane Holland finished in the lead ahead of Bruce Kett and Steve Noyer.
