DION HUNTER — COVER ME UPHOLSTERY

-

When it comes to someone building a new project, I like to be involved from the start. The reason I say this is that most people don’t think about exactly how things are going to fit into the interior. For example, when building a roadster, it is very helpful to have some framing inside behind the seat for support for the panels, also for the kick panels.

What about where the wiring will run down inside the body?

There is lots to think about when building a car: What engine will I put into it, transmission, diff, what colour will I paint it, what’s the interior going to look like?

For me, it’s all in the detail to make the finished vehicle stand out — that includes the interior.

If we (motor trimmers) are involved from the beginning, we can suggest on how you can add or take away a few things to make things flow better, look more seamless, to make you think about the small things you probably haven’t thought about. I also like to get to know my client, so that I can understand what they want in the interior. Some have no idea, and some know exactly what they want, and many in between. My job is to make sure that they get what they want and what they like. So, to do that, I need to go over their ideas, find out their expectations, and build it for them. For this, I generally like to go over sample materials, pictures, and sketches with them to really find what they like so I can come up with a design to present to them. From there, we can adapt and change where needed, and I can make up samples so the client can see what they are getting. Then we can see how we can make it work to look seamless: Where can the wiring harness go so you don’t see it under the carpet? How can we make the floor flat so the carpet will look flat? How can we make the roll bar disappear or less noticeable?
