Cradle Mountain > Penguin
Explore majestic Cradle Mountain and surrounding Dove Lake on foot, climb to Marions Lookout or opt for a horseback tour. Those after a bit of R&R shouldn’t miss the Waldheim Alpine Spa at Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge where the views are as good as the treatments. Once rejuvenated, head north along the C132 via Moina and Kindred, where the soil is so red and luscious it looks almost edible, towards the seaside towns of Ulverstone. Spend a couple of hours here trawling the town’s second-hand shops or visiting the museum to learn about the region’s pioneering history. Continue to Penguin, where you’ll be staying the night. Mountain bike enthusiasts should take on the Penguin MTB Park, a 4km single trail suitable for beginners as well as more advanced riders. If you’re here between September and March, before bed, head down to the water to glimpse the namesake birds wandering ashore to nest.
