Corsair Lapdog

Not just an old-fashioned insult anymore!

- PRICE $ 159 www.corsair.com/en-au/lapdog

Corsair bills the Lapdog as a “Gaming Control Center”, a rather highfalutin’ name for what it really is – a mousepad and keyboard enclosure attached to a stable table. Designed to be a companion for the Bulldog gaming PC, the Lapdog is intended to be a loungeroom based gaming interface allowing for comfortable play from the couch if you prefer the precision of mouse and keyboard control over an Xbox or Steam controller.

The basic unit is heftily constructed from aluminium and has space for a full sized Corsair K65 or K70 keyboard (or tenkeyless if you use the enclosed spacer) next to a spacious 11”x11” mouse pad with ample room to store cables. The top enclosure is held to a memory foam base with magnets, and this is something of a problem. While the base can be removed, meaning you can situate the enclosure on a desk if you want to, the magnetic force isn’t particularly strong, so aggressive mousing or even sitting at an odd angle can cause the entire thing to start sliding off the base.

The other problem with the Lapdog is price. Unless you want to unscrew your keyboard every time you want to plug it back into your non-loungeroom PC, you’re going to have to buy another, taking the price of the unit from $159 to something closer to $260 or more. As it stands, the Lapdog is more of a proof of concept solution to a problem not many people have. Given time and a few more iterations, the Lapdog could be a PC gaming staple, but for now it’s a needless luxury. DANIEL WILKS
