It’s

nice to give our gaming laptop of the year award to an Aussie company. The Metabox P670RS-G was an absolutel shoein for this award, as it simply ticked all the right boxes. It’s on the larger end of the spectrum, based around a 17.3- inch screen, which just happens to be G- s ynch enabled. It only tops out at 60Hz, but that’ s fine for the majority of gamers who haven’t gotten used to 100Hz+ screens.

The all-alloy construction means it only weighs just over 3kg while remaining super sturdy, and the subtle black design doesn’t scream “I’m gaming!” when you’re having a sneaky round of Overwatch in the office. But it’s the hardware inside combined with an incredible price that simply blew my mind. Intel’s i7-6700HQ is a beast for gaming, with its quad-cores peaking out at 3.5GHz under maximum load. More impressive though is the fact that this has been paired with our GPU of the year, the GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile. 16GB of memory is more than enough, though the storage is a little on the light end, with a single 240GB M.2 SATA.

These are all very highend specs which I’d expect to cost in excess of three grand for. So to see this on sale for just $2,449 simply gave me no choice – if you’re looking for the best gaming laptop around that won’t cost the Earth, the Metabox P670RS-G was my pick for 2016.
