The Resistance Striker Elite is the first laptop we’ve looked at from the Australian gaming brand, but if the Striker Elite is indicative of the price and performance of the range, we’re keen to see more. When it comes to specs, the Elite is no slouch, boasting a 17.3” full HD G-Sync panel, 16Gb of DDR4, an i7-7700HQ CPU and an 8Gb GTX 1070. It’s not short on connectivity either, with a Display Port, two USB type C and two USB 3 ports on the left side of the chassis, a second Display Port and an HDMI port on the back and another USB 3 on the right. The chassis is made of both plastic and brushed aluminium,, with the metal used primarily as the screen backing and the wrist rest, making the unit look quite elegant.

In addition to the powerful innards, the Striker Elite also features some neat extra touches that elevate it beyond some of its’ similarly specced competitors. Beneath the screen are two decently sized and surprisingly decent Onkyo speakers, and the sound is driven by a Sound Blaster X-Fi 5. The keyboard is fairly standard but does boast some programmable RGB lighting if that floats your boat. When it comes to gaming, the Striker Elite is a bit of a beast. We played quite a bit of Nier and Mass Effect on the machine at max settings and the framerate remained solid throughout. Outputting to a second screen, 1440p ran smoothly at slightly lower settings. As can be expected, battery life is pretty short, but given the size and weight of the machine it’s not really something you’ll be using on the go. TAVISH FORREST
