Blowing the dust off old games

There’s

a lot of sequels and reboots this month. The seventh Tekken game, the sequel to a wonderful Australian indie zombie survival game, a relaunch of an old MMO, and the latest in a long series of strategy games from one of the most focused developers in the industry.

Everyone always says that the games industry is overtaking the more established film industry - it’s true, too, but one of the byproducts of this is that it’s also falling into some of the same traps. Hollywood has long had a thing for remakes and reboots (how many damn Spiderman reboots are we going to get?!), preferring to play things safe with mega-budget movies. A lot of game publishers are doing much the same, and like the film industry, this means you really need to look to the indies for the real innovation and fresh ideas.

Thankfully we have some of those this month, too.
