Plantronics has been going from strength to strength lately, with a series of excellent gaming and audio headsets. The Rig 800LX is a high-end wireless headset for Xbox One and PC, featuring high fidelity sound and Dolby Atmos support. As far as price is concerned, the Rig 800LX is more expensive than the vast majority of the company’s other headsets, but for the most part it’s worth it. The headset sounds great, is well designed and is extremely comfortable. As a whole the headset is a winner, with a few caveats.

Before getting into the specifics of the headset, it is important to note that even though the box features the Dolby Atmos logo, it’s not actually an integral component of the headset. Rather than being built into the headsets’ drivers, it’s a codec that can be downloaded through your Microsoft account. With that out of the way, the Rig 800LX echoes the design of the previous Rig headsets, with a sprung plastic headband, a selfadjusting head strap and earcups that can be placed in one of three positions on the headband for optimal fit. Each earcup features an excellent 40mm driver capable of extremely good stereo and thanks to the Dolby Atmos codec, some excellent virtual surround as well. The battery life is also stellar, promising 24 hours of use and delivering close to that. The only major problem with the headset is situational. If you’re gaming by yourself it won’t pose a problem, but if you’re in company, the Rig 800LX leaks like a sieve. Don’t listen to anything you don’t want other people to hear clearly. DANIEL WILKS
