Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super

A 2080 with a little bit more.

Externally, the RTX 2080 Super Founder’s Edition looks almost identical to its non-super sibling. The exception is the addition of a classy mirror finish on the face of the card. It retains the impressive build quality, design and overall aesthetic that we like from all the other RTX Founders Edition cards. It comes with a 1,815 MHz boost clock, which as usual is quite conservative. You can expect clocks well above this if thermal and power conditions allow. We have received word that the Founder’s Edition card won’t be on sale in Australia, though it will be available in many OEM systems.

The RTX 2080 Super FE uses the same PCB as the non-Super 2080. An 8+2-phase DrMOS VRM system is adequate, but won’t match the likes of the Asus Strix card in terms of VRM quality. Unless you’re into LN2 cooling though, this won’t make any practical difference.

The FE card’s display connectivity consists of three DisplayPort 1.4a outputs along with a single HDMI 2.0b connector. The VirtualLink USB Type-C connector designed for VR headsets is also carried over.

The performance on offer from the 2080 Super FE is impressive, but isn’t much of a gain over the vanilla 2080. It’s able to game 4K and is a particularly strong choice for use with a high refresh rate

1440p monitor.

The RTX 2080 Super is an improvement by almost every measure. It offers a terrific set of forward-looking features, but a 4K gaming card doesn’t go for cheap. If you don’t mind paying, then the RTX 2080 Super Founder’s Edition is a very good card.
