Top pharmacy performers

LAST weekend’s PSA17 conference in Sydney included the announcement of the PSA MIMS Intern Pharmacist of the Year, with joint winners named at this year’s event.

Western Australia’s Carolyn Glazier and ACT-based Seema Khiani took out the award which recognises outstanding performance in their development as professional pharmacists, acting as role models amongst Early Career Pharmacists.

Glazier is completing her internship at Gerald Burns Pharmacy in Perth, while Khiani completed her internship at Canberra’s Capital Chemist Charnwood.

The other finalists in the award included Veronica Moss, Queensland; Robert Scarso from Victoria; Tasmania’s Laura Perry; and Sankit Laiseta, SA NT.

“All the state finalists were outstanding and came from a broad cross section of pharmacy practice,” said MIMS business development director Dinah Graham.

“Each year MIMS has sponsored this award the calibre of applicants has improved,” she added, with MIMS providing the $4,000 educational grant prize for the award.

Meanwhile it was a “tale of two Jessicas” for the Pharmacy Student of the Year award at the conference, which was won by Jessica Bailey of Victoria, while the People’s Choice Award for 2017 went to NSW’s Jessica Joseph (both pictured below).

The 2017 Pharmacy Student of the Year competition was jointly sponsored by API and Mylan, with PSA president Shane Jackson congratulating all the winners who he said were “set to become future leaders of the profession”.
