HOW It WORKS using lens tools
Reduce barrelling, chromatic aberration and vignetted edges
01 LENS CORRECTION PANEL
This tab gives you access to a range of lens correction tools.
02 SUB WINDOW
The sub window gives you a closer look at any part of your photo. To choose which area you want to magnify, click this button. Move the cursor over the target area and click to select it.
03 COLOUR FRINGES
When you have high-contrast areas, such as the viaduct’s darker brick against the lighter sky, you may notice a red or blue fringe, as here. In the adjacent corrected area the fringe has been removed.
04 VIGNETTING
Many lenses produce an uneven exposure around the edge of the frame, leading to darker colours and tones in these edge areas. This insert shows a vignetted edge from the image before it was corrected.
05 BARRELLING
Some lenses can cause straight lines to become curved. The image bulges outwards from the centre (as if the photograph was wrapped around a barrel). Geometric distortion is especially noticeable in architectural photos with straight horizontal and vertical lines.
06 DIGITAL LENS OPTIMIZER
Click this box to use a lens profile to counteract the distortion produced by your camera’s specific lens. As this provides an alternative way to remove colour fringes, the Chromatic Aberration sliders are unavailable. Check out our step-by-step walkthrough to learn how to import and apply a lens profile.
07 PERIPHERAL ILLUMINATION
This box will lighten vignetted edges to help you create a more even exposure. You can use the adjacent slider to increase the effect of the correction and lighten up the edges even more.
08 CHROMATIC ABERRATION
The top slider adjusts the number of pixels that are shifted to reduce the appearance of colour fringes. Drag the R or B sliders to the right to target and remove red or blue fringes. By ticking the Color Blur box, you can also reduce colour fringing.
09 DISTORTION
Click this box to automatically counteract barrel or pincushion distortion. Use the slider to fine-tune the amount of correction. Toggle the effect on and off to check results.
