THAT’S CLOSE ENOUGH…
A true macro lens enables full 1.0x reproduction of the subject on the image sensor, but don’t worry if you don’t have one: any lens that allows reasonably close photography will do. Check out your lenses’ stated maximum magnification; the greater the number, the closer you can get to your subject and the bigger it will appear. many thirdparty zooms append ‘macro’ onto their name, and these generally have a max magnification of around 0.3x or so – or around one-third fullsize. Even Canon’s EF-S 18-55mm is kit lens is rated at 0.34x, plenty big enough for a good amount of close-up work.
