Manual control
The EOS M is no point-and-shoot: there are plenty of ways to take control
EOS M cameras offer many familiar advanced functions of EOS DSLRS, including the full complement of Creative Zone modes (Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual), spot metering, JPEG+RAW shooting and exposure compensation. In fact, both the M3 and M5 feature dedicated exposure compensation dials positioned at the top of the thumb grip.
You might still have to dip into the menus to change functions like white balance and metering, but the touchscreen makes this a relatively painless process. In another nod to making control easier, the M5’s rear touchscreen becomes an autofocus trackpad when you’re looking through the viewfinder, allowing you to move the AF point intuitively around the image with your thumb. Obviously making extensive use of the rear screen, EVF and Wi-fi will reduce battery life, so it’s definitely worth investing in a spare.
