I use Manual mode to control aperture and shutter speed, and set Auto ISO; how do I change exposure compensation?

Brian Says… I can see how exposure compensation would be helpful when you use Auto ISO in Manual mode, yet your EOS 5D Mark III doesn’t have this feature. It was implemented on the EOS-1D X and is also found on the 80D, 7D Mark II, 5D Mark IV and 5DS/5DS R.

My suggestion is to work a slightly different way and use exposure lock, which works in Manual mode with Auto ISO. Identify a part of the frame that is midtoned, then use Partial metering to read the light from that area and press the AE Lock button. If the light is consistent for several shots, then you can set the AE Lock button to AE Lock With Hold. This keeps the metered reading until the camera is switched off.

?? ?? With a bright sky, it’s easy for the camera metering to be fooled. Use ae Lock and take a reading from the track before the rider appears
