Autumn Lament by brad grove

-

It was the beginning of winter and pretty miserable when I arrived at Lake Wanaka, New Zealand. The wind was blowing at about 25 knots, the surface of the lake had erupted into waves, and the little tree was swaying back and forth. I took one exposure of 1/10 sec (enough to freeze the moving tree) and a much longer exposure of 10 secs using a Hoya ND400 filter, which flattened out all those waves, and blended the exposures in post-production, resulting in an image that actually looked like the lake had frozen. Lens Canon ef 17-40mm f/4l usm Exposure 1/10 sec and 10 secs, f/8, iso50
