Stunning imagery from the world of Canon photography
Canon users from around the world interpret the brief of ‘Single Colours’
01 Sheep among the fog by ukmaac
The warm morning glow that the photographer has captured lends a nostalgic and almost evanescent feeling to this image. It’s tough getting out early with your camera, but this shot proves just how rewarding that early alarm can be when the light is right. Lens Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Exposure 1/250 sec, f/5.6, ISO100
02 Blue Chrysanth By Brian haslam
Brian’s colourful shot of a chrysanthemum was a clear winner in this contest. He’s really embraced the brief of photographing just one colour, and has done well to match the background of the still-life setup to the flower itself. This winner is also a stunning example of a macro shot. The narrow aperture of f/32 captures the subject in exquisite detail, and the square composition lends itself to the circular shape of the flower. Well done Brian! Lens Canon ef 100mm f/2.8 macro usm Exposure 1 sec, f/32, iso160
03 lightning By Bertus hanekom
This energetic scene displays a lightning storm as it approaches a windmill in the Karoo, South Africa. Purple has connotations of magic and the supernatural, and this violet monochromatic colour scheme fits the bill perfectly. Lens Canon ef 24-105 f/4l is usm Exposure 5 secs, f/8, iso100
04 ruins By krzysztof Browko
By filling the whole frame with the vibrant and lush hues of this Tuscan landscape, Krzysztof has made this summer scene even more impactful. The hilly lines are graphic in nature, and by positioning the building in the top-third of the frame, our eye is led towards it. Lens Canon ef 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6l is usm Exposure 1/50 sec, f/13, iso100
05 milford sound waterfall By June morrisey
The white balance was set to Manual here, and June has enhanced the cold tones of the rushing water by making the temperature even cooler. The textured blue hues conjure up a feeling of depth and stability, and a fast shutter freezes the motion of this New Zealand waterfall. Lens Canon ef 24-105mm f/4l is usm Exposure 1/400 sec, f/6.3, iso500
06 winter serenity By lamprianidis Christos
This image is characterized by its distinct lack of colour, with the white pared-down tones working well for a calm and peaceful mood. The emptiness of the frame itself is enhanced by the pastel hues – Lamprianidis has successfully mastered the serene feeling he was after! Lens Canon ef 17-40mm f/4l usm Exposure 1/80 sec, f/4, iso800
07 China happiness By dirk van den heuvel
Dirk has really embraced the brief here, providing us with a bold and vibrant feast for the eyes. Red is a very emotionally intense colour and the shot immediately draws the viewer’s attention into the frame, which has been filled with the coloured lanterns. Lens Canon ef 24-105mm f/4l is usm Exposure 1/125 sec, f/4, iso100
08 solo By damir podhorski
The use of a long focal length and fairly wide aperture has compressed the perspective of this lone red poppy against its similar-coloured background. The isolation of the flower and positioning using the rule of thirds results in a photo that’s balanced and dreamy. Lens tamron Sp 150-600mm f/5-6.3 di VC usd Exposure 1/640 sec, f/6.3, iso400
09 pink streaks By annie mcdonnell
These silver birches streaked in pink were really different, and we couldn’t resist giving this shot a commendation. Annie enhanced the colours of the spot lights with a long exposure. She streaked the colours and branches by keeping the shutter open and slowly moving camera upwards for the effect. Lens tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 di ii VC pzd Exposure 2.5 secs, f/7.1, iso800
