CANON PIXMA ts9150
£215/$150 This new range-topping A4 PIXMA takes a different twist on six-ink printing
We’ve seen six-ink A4 PIXMA printers, which added an extra grey cartridge to the usual line-up. This enables greater fidelity in black & white photo printing, as well as increasing the ‘gamut’ or colour space for mainstream photos. The TS9150 adds a ‘photo blue’ cartridge to reduce the grainy appearance of bright blue in photo prints.
This printer leapfrogs the intermediate TS8150 in the new PIXMA range (TS8120 in the USA). Both printers have the same six-ink line-up, Wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, memory card slot and facility for printing on white-faced CDS and DVDS. However, this printer has a 5-inch touchscreen and adds Ethernet into the connectivity mix. The combination gives you enhanced standalone control and wider options for network printing.
Build quality is excellent throughout, with refinements that include an automatically tilting front panel and extending output tray. Again, there’s a built-in cassette that’s ideal for plain paper and a rear feeder that’s perfect for photo paper and specialist media.
performance
Much faster than the Canon TS6150 in standard quality photo mode, the TS9150 is practically as quick as the Epson XP-8500, and faster in best quality mode. Portraits have the same beautiful warm skin tones as from the TS6150, but inky blue skies sometimes look fractionally smoother. Overall print performance is outstanding. Note: this model is the TS9120 in USA
