This shot was the result of a happy accident as the main key light and ring flash didn’t fire, creating a striking silhouette of the Blue Chilean Eagle just before it lands on a perch the other end of the studio. I like the shape of the wings, creating a symmetrical circle with the tail feathers. Remember that bird perches need to be high off the ground as birds like to be high up so they can survey the area. Changing the white balance of the Raw image in Photoshop has turned the background to blue to create a ‘nighttime’ atmosphere.
