What does IS mean?

-

IS (Image Stabilizer) can help to suppress camera shake, allowing you to get sharp results at shutter speeds slower than usual. Some IS lenses have a switch to function on or off, while others have an additional slider that allows you to set the IS mode. Mode 1 is a general purpose setting, while Mode 2 is for action photography where you need to pan the camera to track a moving subject.
