VIGNETTE Control
For portraiture, vignetting isn’t necessarily bad news
Just as blurring the background makes portrait subjects stand out against their surroundings, so does vignetting. This term refers to the darkening of edges and corners in images. It happens naturally with any lens, and the effect can be particularly pronounced in ‘fast’ lenses, when used at their widest apertures. With all of the Canon lenses in the group, as well as both Sigma lenses with the latest firmware, in-camera corrections for ‘peripheral illumination’ are available in all recent Canon cameras, to counteract vignetting. Naturally, whether you want to use this facility is a matter of preference.
