Tutorial 3

Start getting to grips with the latest version of Lightroom

-

Forget about Lightroom 6, from now on you only have two choices: Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic. Both are subscription-only, but Lightroom CC is a cloud-based editing software that is seemingly designed to be the bridge between your computer, phone, and tablet. It does this by attempting to simplify the editing tools (by removing a bunch of them).

Lightroom Classic is a nod to our standalone Lightroom 6, as it has slightly more editing capabilities than Lightroom CC (with the inclusion of the Curves panel and more complex colour controls), and is similar to the old style layout. It’s not as easy to share images to multiple devices with this version, but it’s a good workhorse for the photographer who needs to plough through work quickly and efficiently.

In the beginning we’re going to focus on Lightroom CC here, with its radically different redesign, but any editing you do in CC can also be applied to Classic. Before everything else though, you may want to check the minimum specification requirements, which can be found on the Adobe website. Older less powerful computers may struggle to keep up with this newer, more intensive version of Lightroom.

We’ll delve deeper into the Lightroom CC interface over coming issues, but to get things started we’ll take a look at some of the major changes to the traditional Lightroom platform.
