Get up and running with your newly unboxed Canon using our quick setup guide

-

Getting and unboxing your new Canon DSLR is an exciting moment. But it can also be confusing if you don’t know what to do with it next to start taking pictures! So, don’t worry which new Canon EOS DSLR model you have; our quick start up guide is applicable to absolutely any Canon DSLR.

Your Canon will have shipped with a chunky manual to peruse, but many of us will prefer to randomly explore our new gadget at our leisure while leaving the manual in the box.

The box will also include a manual on disc, but some modern computers (such as Macs) don’t posses an optical drive. You may notice a leaflet in the box that invites you to download a Getting Started phone app for your camera, but again this may not be your preferred way of working. Our step-by-step guide (and accompanying video) will quickly help you get up and running with your new Canon.

When faced with an expensive Canon DSLR you’ll want to set it up correctly. We’ll start off by looking at the physical ways to set it up your kit – such as attaching a lens, correctly charging and inserting the battery and inserting an appropriate memory card.

We’ll move on to customizing internal menu settings in the next issue…

01 BATTERY AND CHARGER

The battery charges in two hours. Follow the arrow to insert it correctly.

02 USB CABLE

Use this cable to attach your camera to a PC. Some Canons can connect to your PC via your Wi-fi network.

03 MANUAL AND APP

Explore the manual or download an app to learn more via your phone.

04 STRAP

Attaching the strap can be a fiddly cause of frustration. Check out our walkthrough and video for help.
