Low-level focusing

Use Canon’s app to touch up sharpness remotely

-

By their very nature, many macro subjects are found at low level. This can pose a few problems when it comes to framing up and focusing, as you may need to place your camera in a position where it’s hard to see through the viewfinder.

If your camera has a Variangle screen, then you can simply twist the screen out and rotate it so that you can frame your shots easily, although it can be tricky to see the display in bright light. If you’re using a Wi-fi enabled EOS, then you connect your smartphone to your camera and view the Live View feed on Canon’s Camera Connect app. You can also touch up the focus manually using the app – although the lens will need to be set to AF in order to do so. To focus the lens, tap the focusing icon at the bottom of the screen and then tap the left and right chevrons to focus closer or farther away. Use the single chevron for more subtle shifts in focus.
