Why does Live View in EOS Utility look so dark when using flash for shots?

BRIAN SAYS… If you’re using flash then the odds are you’re using Manual mode with a fast shutter speed, then you may find Live View dark on the LCD and in EOS Utility. This is because the camera simulates the exposure for the chosen shutter, aperture and ISO settings. If you are using a recent Canon or compatible Speedlite the combination normally disables exposure simulation for you, but rarely does so with studio flashes. You’ll need to change the exposure simulation in the camera’s Live View menus. You can also switch the simulation on or off in EOS Utility directly for most cameras.

?? ?? When shooting tethered with EOS Utility and Live View it’s best to turn off exposure simulation if you are using a flash to light your subject
