ALEX HYDE says use Live View when shooting close-ups. “It’s easier than peering through the viewfinder for focusing and composing, but switch Exposure Simulation off in the Live View menu, as it displays your shot with ambient light – so when you’re

using flash it will show a black screen! Also, the on-screen image shows the image at the lens’s widest aperture, even if using f/16, but by holding down the Depth of Field Preview button (on the front of your camera) once focused, you can see the shot at your chosen aperture, and double-check your focusing is good and your subject is sharp. Take a test shot with flash then use the histogram to fine-tune the exposure.”
