NO MAN’S SKY

The Pathfinder update comes to those who wait

-

CHALLENGE YOUR FRIENDS TO FIND OUT WHO’S FAST AND WHO’LL BE FURIOUS.

Back in issue 121, we asked Sean Murray what the future held for Hello Games’ massive galaxy. He told us, “If people want animal husbandry, land vehicles, to share YouTube videos or link to [planet] seeds so other people can visit that planet… Stuff like that would be cool.” True to his word, vehicles are now a part of No Man’s Sky.

These space buggies are a significant new addition. There are three types of exocraft – the Nomad, Roamer, and Colossus – which can be built if you recruit a Vy’keen Technician and complete the tasks they set for you.

It’ll be worth the extra effort, too. While vehicles now make exploring easier, you can also equip mining lasers to harvest resources or weapons to blast anything you come across into moon dust.

Don’t think it’s all work and no play, either. You can also race your vehicles by creating courses, then challenging friends to find out who’s fast and who’ll be left furious.

That’s not the only improvement. A photo mode offers free camera movement, an adjustable day/night slider, and atmosphere controls for you to create the perfect shot.

Still want more? This update also includes 4K support for PS4 Pro owners, more than double the customisation options for bases and, rather terrifyingly, a new permadeath mode. Tantalisingly, there’s a new trophy waiting for those who can best it.

Despite the troubled launch, Hello Games’ effort to keep evolving its creation is admirable. The only thing we want to know now is: where are those space farms? Stickler for details? You can see the full patch notes at bit.ly/NMSpathfinder.

?? ?? This is the Nomad, a nippy exocraft that can glide over water. Alas, it can’t turn that water into wine.
