GOD EATER 3
It’s evolving Monster Hunter: World’s ideas one giant beastie at a time
Ssh, no-one mention that monster game from Capcom. Bandai Namco’s God Eater 3 is in no way a similar co-op creature-hunting adventure tied to a crazy game lore that has you tracking and defeating ever larger and weirder beasts. It’s nothing like Monster Hunter: World. Honest.
Okay, you got us, God Eater 3 is a little like Capcom’s global hit. In a world on the brink of destruction at the hands (claws?) of enormous creatures called Aragami, it’s your job as an Adaptive God Eater (AGE) to venture forth and start slaying. These monsters live in the Ashlands, where only AGE warriors can hunt safely, using enormous God Arc bladed weapons that can transform into cannons.
Like Monster Hunter: World the stars of this game are its cast of big bads – for example, Ra is an Egyptian-influenced demon who sits on a fiery globe and hurls burning orbs for fun. Where Bandai Namco’s game finds its own path is in its enemy AI. These creatures aren’t content to be God Arc fodder, they’ll react to your style and even change their attacks. Accessing Devour and Burst forms, these monsters will evolve as you fight. Ra will grow fiery wings, while the previously revealed Anubis will go from walking on four legs to standing on two, changing its physical attack patterns in the process.
With a brash anime visual style, and a focus on narrative and building a believable world, God Eater 3 looks to have a fresh take on Capcom’s formula.
“RA IS AN EGYPTIAN-INFLUENCED DEMON WHO SITS ON A FIERY GLOBE AND HURLS BURNING ORBS JUST FOR FUN.”
