The Spyro trilogy is heading to PS4

Looks like you’ve got some things to do!

-

Just as it should be, hot on the heels of Crash Bandicoot’s success comes Spyro The Dragon. The little purple fire-breather is getting the N. Sane Trilogy treatment, as all three classic Spyro games – Spyro The Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! and Spyro: Year Of The Dragon – are being remade and bundled together into the Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

Set for release 21 September to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series, each game in the trilogy is getting a 4K overhaul, with new visuals and improved animation. Not content with a simple graphical upgrade, developer Toys For Bob has spent time improving the game’s camera for a smoother experience and implemented full analog stick support to ensure this Spyro plays how your child’s mind remembers and not how it actually handled on an old PS1 DualShock.

“We’ve poured a lot of love into making the personalities and worlds feel just like fans remember them, while also keeping the game collection surprisingly fresh with lush, high-definition detail. We’re bringing back the Spyro we all fell in love with 20 years ago,” comments Paul Yan, chief creative officer at Toys For Bob.

PURPLE PATCH

The care being taken to bring Spyro to PlayStation 4 includes making subtle improvements to some environments, revamping the cinematics, and even fine-tuning the animation, which stretches to Spyro’s cast list (including Sparx The Dragonfly, Hunter, Sheila, Agent 9 and Sgt. Byrd). The enhancements even go as far as re-imagining Stewart Copeland’s [ fromThe Police?!? – ed] original soundtrack. Finally, Tom Kenny, the original voice actor from Spyro 2 and 3 is back. It all sounds like music to our ears.
