DEATH STRANDING

Here comes a new challenger in Death Stranding

-

If you thought good old Koj had run out of friends, then we’re sorry to say you don’t know Mr Hideo Kojima very well. Just when you think Death Stranding’s cast couldn’t get more interesting, someone else appears. Maybe it’s because he was the mastermind behind Metal Gear before leaving to form his self-titled studio Kojima Productions with Sony; maybe it’s the purity of his love of Mads Mikkelsen (see his Twitter for receipts). Either way, the auteur’s beloved.

Tommie Earl Jenkins joins the cast as an unnamed skull-faced character, alongside Troy Baker (Sam Drake in Uncharted, and Ocelot in MGS V), an also-mysterious man in a golden mask, who was the centre of the most recent trailer. Seemingly an antagonist, he seems to be causing trouble for Sam Bridges (main man Norman Reedus’ character). Sam is interrupted by this stranger while carrying someone on his back, and it seems the golden-faced man wants to get in Sam’s way. Taking off his mask, he’s able to channel some of the world’s sinister dark energy into it to summon some sort of giant, golden-masked ooze lion that, in his words, “looks hungry”. Both the stranger and Sam’s suits beep furiously at the monster, though it appears to be different to the invisible creatures we’ve glimpsed so far. Just what else hides in this hidden realm just out of sight?

Before he disappears, the stranger tells Sam the only way to survive is to avoid getting eaten. Next, cue some gameplay (we hope) where Sam will do just that – but quite how, we’re left to wonder.

THE STRANGER IS ABLE TO CHANNEL THE WORLD’S DARK ENERGY.

Who else could be pop up in this all-star game? Give us your thoughts @OPM_UK.

?? ?? As well as avoiding creepy invisible creatures, it seems you’ll have to avoid ones you can see too.
