LAST MONTH ON PS PLUS

- @KoeniginKatze

PS Plus seems to be having an identity crisis months on after dropping PS Vita and PS3 titles from its lineup. For instance, last month the two PS4 titles were announced only for there to be a last-minute swap. Instead of enjoying a kickabout in Pro Evolution Soccer 2019… well, we can’t promise that a load of old balls wasn’t involved. The last minute switcharoo was for Quantic Dream’s interactive sci-fi movie Detroit: Become Human. While visually impressive – to the tune of 7/10 – we’re still waiting for the buddy cop dream team of Hank (the curmudgeonly copper) and Connor (the android from CyberLife) to get their own crime caper game. That’s a dream Quantic may never realise but the deluxe edition on offer here was no nightmare.

If you redeemed this title, you also got the Heavy Rain PS4 remaster. This was a perfect addition to your library if Connor and Hank’s storyline left you hankering for more murder mystery shenanigans. You also gained a digital Detroit artbook and the soundtrack, as well as a selection of avatars and themes. For last month’s understudy, it wasn’t a bad deal. Now, from human souls in plastic bodies to this month’s final offering, the selfdescribed ‘retro soul in a modern body.’

Horizon Chase Turbo wears its late ‘80s influences on its sleeve, boasting a stylised, nostalgic aesthetic and arcadey racing action. Music by Barry Leitch was the perfect soundtrack to accompany besting your buds in four-player, splitscreen couch co-op, and we don’t doubt it was stuck in your head days after you crossed the finish line (it was lodged solidly in ours).

You weren’t exactly spinning your wheels with this selection, but hopefully there won’t be a similar U-turn with the PS Plus lineup next month.
