TERMINATOR: RESISTANCE
Licensed games will never stop coming…
Everything we’re about to write comes with one important caveat: this developer/publisher partnership was responsible for Rambo: The Video Game. That on-rails PlayStation 3 shooter was a dark moment in licensed gaming. We get cold sweats just typing these words.
Fortunately, it’s clear Teyon has learned a thing or two since Rambo. For starters Terminator: Resistance is a first-person shooter with a fully explorable post-apocalyptic Los Angeles to run around. Set in Terminator’s official Future War, this looks a lot like the rubble-strewn streets the films depict. Expect there to be plenty of skulls getting crushed under heavy metal feet.
The dev’s licence is for the original Terminator and T2, so don’t expect any links to new movie Terminator: Dark Fate except a timely release. This shooter puts you in the resistance as Jacob Rivers, and your actions in missions and side-quests will raise you through the ranks. You unlock more weapons and skills as you progress, and the choices you make can affect the story’s outcome. Fate, eh?
While the dev’s history gives us nightmares, Terminator: Resistance looks decent. And who doesn’t want to go plasma-rifle-to-metal-fist with the movies’ iconic machines, including the Arnietastic T-800? If the team can deliver even a solid shooter packed with enough fan service to entertain, this could be a fun budget blast.
