New contract for Agent 47
IO Interactive gearing up for the next Hitman
If our favourite numbered assassin kept a small notebook of his favourite kills, there’s little doubt that it’d mostly be full of his escapades from his last two games. 2016’s Hitman and 2018’s Hitman 2 were phenomenal back-to-basics approaches to the series, filled with sandbox levels bursting with creative possibilities to commit bloody (and silent) murder. And now, IO Interactive has confirmed a brand-new Hitman game is in the works.
While Hitman 2 wasn’t constructed as an episodic game like its predecessor, IO Interactive has continued to add extra levels and content post-release. But “after 13 months of full-time support and content for Hitman 2,” the company says in an update on its website, “we’re now at a place where we are looking increasingly to the future. In real terms, we’re moving more and more of the Hitman 2 team to join the next Hitman game, which is well underway.”
Last issue we predicted a new title would be in the works. While the studio has now confirmed it, it’s yet to indicate what form a new Hitman game will take. It could be the case that the forthcoming game will be very different from previous entries in the series, though we certainly won’t object if it ends up being more of the same style of densly crafted levels we’ve grown accustomed to in this new era of Hitman. We’ll find out when the game arrives. That’s likely to be in 2021 or later, meaning Agent 47 is already scoping out his next kills for the next generation, and is now riding high on our PS5 most-wanted list.
WE’RE MOVING MORE AND MORE OF THE HITMAN 2 TEAM TO JOIN THE NEXT HITMAN.
