PS Now for something completely different

-

The headline act of this month’s new PS Now arrivals is marvel’s spider

man. The web-slinging hero is joined by Just Cause 4 as timed entries, but The Golf Club 2019 is added to the service for keeps. Still, I’d rather swing myself from a web until 7 July than a putter forever.

All this thinking about Spider-Man puts me in the mood to dip into PS Now’s back catalogue of superhero games, which sadly is devoid of any Marvel hits. Not even a Lego game. Instead we get a lot of Batman. As Insomniac’s Spidergame apes many of the ideas from Arkham, I dip back into where it all began and replay BATMAN: ARKHAM ASYLUM GAME OF

THE YEAR. Sadly it’s not the remaster that was released on PS4, but old cowl-head still looks good for his age. PS Now doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the framerate and delivering the iconic rhythmic combat. What strikes me the most is the foreshadowing Rocksteady placed around Arkham: if you look there’re many nods to what’s to come in future Batman games.

With Joker dealt with and my need for ’roids held back I venture into NetherRealm’s INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US ULTIMATE

EDITION. Though not as slick and deep as its RPG-poaching sequel, this DC-themed brawler is still a fun slice of comic-book mayhem, and remains one of the best DC crossovers regardless of format. This version features all the DLC fighters, including Batgirl, Lobo, and Martian Manhunter. This and I get to watch evil Superman put several nails into Lex Luthor’s coffin.

Getting me over the trauma of all that is LEGO BATMAN 3:

BEYOND GOTHAM, a PS4 release – which means I download it to my console and enjoy the full experience.

With 200 characters to find it’ll soak up some lockdown time nicely.

?? ?? Batman: Arkham Asylum was the start of something great, and it (as well as sequels City and Knight) is playable on PS Now.
